|
The mission of graduate program in the department of Human Nutrition is to provide graduates with advanced knowledge and skills needed for advanced level positions in human nutrition and doctoral programs of study. The long term goals for the MS degree in Human Nutrition are to: 1. maintain scholarly programs of study leading to the Master of Science degree in Human Nutrition; 2. facilitate opportunities for faculty and graduate student collaboration on research projects; 3. provide integration of dietetics theory and practice in health care setting for development of competent, ethical entry-level practitioners; 4. encourage students to assume responsibility for continuous self-development and professional growth; 5. promote development of human nutrition professionals capable of using, interpreting, evaluating, and generating research to enhance dietetics practice; 6. develop entry-level competence in communication of knowledge of food and human nutrition. The Master of Science degree in human nutrition requires at least 33 hours of approved graduate-level courses and a research project, either thesis or special topics, at least half of course work must be 600-level courses. A Master of Science degree option that incorporates the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) accredited Dietetic Internship is available. | |||||||||||||

Admissions

Admission requirements to the Master of Science degree in human nutrition include an overall undergraduate grade-point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; a satisfactory score on the verbal and quantitative sections of the General Test of the Graduate Record Examination; and an entrance conference with at least two graduate faculty members. Acceptance in the Dietetic Internship is contingent upon academic standing, Graduate Record Examination scores, faculty endorsements, references, personal interview, and score on a knowledge-based examination. Applicants for the internship must submit application materials by August 15; applications for the Master of Science degree in human nutrition may be submitted in fall, spring, or summer. | |||||||||||||

May 15 International Student Application Deadlines: May 15 Minimum Academic Requirements: All applicants should have completed courses in basic nutrition, food preparation, and organic chemistry. CHEM 521 (biochemistry) or equivalent is required; 18 semester hours must be in 600 level courses. Minimum English Requirements: All international graduate applicants must present an official TOEFL score of at least 213 on the computer-based and 550 on the paper-based test and the TOEFL iBT score of 79 to The Graduate School. | |||||||||||||
